The area of Ruka-Kuusamo is known as “the land of national parks”, since it is surrounded with three different National Parks: Oulanka, Riisitunturi and Hossa with the addition of Paanajärvi National Park, located just beyond the Russian border. Each of the parks has their own unique nature to explore.
Fishing is an age-old means of livelihood. Today, fishing is also a fine and environmentally friendly hobby, well-suited for the whole family.
Kuusamo is known for its clean and abundant fishing waters. To maintain the fishing conditions great also in future, Kuusamo municipality is taking part in the improvement of fish stocks in our rivers and lakes, and in the protection of our waterways.
An event such as the Fly-fishing World Championships requires an extensive, joint effort. I wish to extend a special thank you to all the volunteers who have made this event possible.
